I personally like to keep my drumming with even rhythmic strikes focusing on connecting the beat and energy of the music to the caning bottom. This helps with head space and preparation for heavier caning to follow. Percussion can involve variations in intensity and heaviness of strikes. I personally do not use it that way. It can also be a type of rhythmic massage. Any cane or canes can be used, but I like "shorties" for this technique.
